Ahmad Zahir was born in the province of Laghman on June 13, 1946. He was a very famous Afghan singer and a very influential person in Afghan music. He was very interested in music right from a very tender age. He showed great interest in the tambour, mandolin and accordion.

Being the son of Abdul Zahir who was a royal court doctor and once prime minister, he was a very influential person. He had composed numerous songs, and the best of his songs have been compiled in the album, Ahmad Zahir: The Best of Ahmad Zahir. Some of the songs in this compilation are Dozde Eshqam, Begzare Ta Begiryam and Hargiz Hargiz.

He has died in the year June 14, 1979. However, even today, 27 years after his death, his music is still much talked about and listened to in the Afghan musical scenario.
