Afghanistan never really had any radio station until 1925. Then, after a brief stint of four years the station was destroyed in 1929 and it was not until the 1950s that modern Afghanistan could openly promote its music on national and international fronts. The orchestras of modern Afghan music have a mixture of Persian and Indian instruments. Some orchestras also have European instruments like the clarinet, violin and guitar.

Ustad Sarahang is one of the more famous ghazal singers of Afghanistan. Some of his songs have been composed, compiled and played by this orchestra, while some of the songs have been accompanied only by the traditional instruments of Afghanistan.
